- Absolute Privacy. No Recording or External Sharing.
This is our most important rule. Taking screenshots, screen recordings, or copying/quoting any content from this subreddit for use anywhere else is strictly forbidden. The SeizureSafehouse is a private space. Violating this trust will result in an instant, permanent ban.
- Zero Tolerance for Doxxing.
Do not share any personally identifiable information (PII) about yourself or any other user. This includes full names, locations, social media profiles, etc. Do not ask others for this information.
- No Unsolicited Private Messages (DMs).
All offers of support should be made publicly. Do not send DMs to members unless they have publicly given you permission. Report any harassing or unsolicited DMs to the moderators immediately.
- No Predatory, Abusive, or Harassing Behavior.
Any form of predatory behavior, grooming, manipulation, harassment, threats, or hate speech will result in an immediate, permanent ban.
- No Illegal Content or Activity.
Content that violates Any Platform Content Policies or is otherwise illegal is strictly prohibited and will be reported to Admins.
- Share Experiences, Not Medical Directives.
This is a peer support group, not a substitute for professional medical advice. Share your personal experiences, but do not give direct medical advice (e.g., “You should take X.”). Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical decisions.
- No Medical Misinformation or Stigmatizing Language.
This is a science-affirming, pro-treatment community. While sharing personal frustrations with a specific doctor or treatment is allowed, we do not permit content that promotes generalized distrust of the medical system, encourages disregarding prescribed medical advice, or spreads unsubstantiated claims. Furthermore, content that promotes negative stereotypes or stigmatizing generalizations about people with epilepsy is strictly forbidden. We are here to fight stigma, not create it.
- Do Not Attempt to Diagnose Others.
You may share your own symptoms and experiences, but you may not attempt to diagnose another user (e.g., “It sounds like you have focal aware seizures.”). Speculation about another person’s diagnosis is not allowed. Please encourage users to see a qualified medical professional for any diagnosis.
- No Definitive Driving or Legal Advice.
Sharing personal experiences about the process of getting a license back is allowed. However, giving definitive legal advice or telling another user whether they are “legally clear” to drive is strictly forbidden. Laws vary significantly by location. Always consult your doctor and your local motor vehicle authority (DMV, DVLA, etc.) for legal guidance.
- Use Content Warnings (CW) & Prohibit Seizure Media.
Please add a “Content Warning” (CW) for graphic descriptions of seizures or injuries. To protect the privacy of all individuals and prevent triggers, posting photos or videos of seizures is not permitted. Sharing medical media like EEG or MRI scans for questions is acceptable, but they must be marked NSFW (Not Safe for Work) to blur the preview.
- Be Kind, Empathetic, and Respectful.
Approach every interaction with kindness. Do not invalidate or belittle another person’s experience (“gatekeeping”). Disagreements must remain respectful.
- Strictly Non-Commercial. No Monetization.
Do not post links to fundraisers, sell products, promote businesses, post affiliate links, or solicit donations. This community will always be free from financial motives.
- No Surveys, Research, or Self-Promotion.
To protect member privacy and maintain our focus on support, this community is not a resource for external projects. This includes, but is not limited to: academic surveys, market research, journalists, podcasters, or any content creators soliciting stories or interviews for articles, blogs, or videos. Promoting your own social media, channels, or any form of self-promotion is also forbidden.
- Report, Don’t Engage.
If you see content that breaks the rules, please use the “Report” button. This allows the moderation team to handle the situation effectively.
- Respect Moderator Directives.
The moderation team is here to ensure the safety and health of the community. If a moderator gives an instruction in a post or comment (e.g., to de-escalate a heated discussion), please respect it. Any questions or disagreements about a moderation action should be handled respectfully via Modmail, not argued publicly.
